Ejaz equaled Kumble’s record by taking 10 wickets in an innings at Mumbai’s Wankhede ground.
When India’s veteran spinner Anil Kumble took 10 wickets in an innings against Pakistan, hardly anyone would have seen such a scene again in a few years. But today, New Zealand spinner Ejaz Patel has done the trick. In the second Test against India at Mumbai’s Wankhede ground, Ejaz equaled Kumble’s record of 10 wickets. Anil Kumble has given his reaction after this heroic deed of Ejaz.
Kumble tweeted congratulations to Ejaz. He said. Ejaz, welcome to your club. Perfect 10. It takes a lot of effort to achieve that on the first and second day of a Test match. ” In 1999, Anil Kumble (26.3-9-74-10) had taken 10 wickets against Pakistan.
What is special is that the record set by the Indian team was repeated against India. In his 141-year Test history, Ejaz Patel is only the third bowler in the world to take 10 wickets in an innings. Apart from Kumble and Ejaz, the record was first set by Jim Laker of England.
The spin bowlers have managed to take 10 wickets in a Test innings. But this is the first time a bowler has done this feat outside the home. Earlier, Kumble and Laker had done this at home.
