Saket bridge to be repaired soon
Thane: The State Road Development Corporation has decided to start the repair work of the very important Saket bridge on the Mumbai-Nashik highway in the near future. A plan is being prepared for this work, so one-way traffic will have to be continued from the bridge. Therefore, there is a great fear of congestion in Thane city as well as on Mumbai-Nashik highway.
Thousands of heavy vehicles departing from Uran JNPT are plying on Mumbai-Nashik highway towards Thane, Gujarat. Due to the narrowness of the Saket bridge and potholes in the road, there are daily traffic jams on this road.
In the meantime, it may take at least a week for repairs to be carried out. This is likely to have an impact on the transportation system here. Currently, the transport department has not given permission for this work. A meeting in this regard will be held soon, sources said.
What could happen?
Thousands of motorists from Kalyan, Bhiwandi, Dombivali area travel from Majivada to Mumbai via Saket bridge. Drivers traveling from Ghodbunder in Thane to Navi Mumbai also use this route to reach Navi Mumbai. Heavy vehicles also use this route towards the warehouse. Although the road was started single during the repair period, there is a possibility of disruption in Majivada and Kapurbawdi areas and disruption of traffic in the city.
As the Saket bridge is old, it will be repaired. A decision in this regard will be taken in the next few days by holding a meeting with the Transport Branch.
