He was cremated in a Buddhist manner at Chaityabhoomi in Mumbai on December 7. Thereafter, on 6th December every year, Bhima followers gather at Chaityabhumi and pay homage to his memory. On December 6, 1956, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar passed away at his residence in Delhi. After that, his body was brought to Mumbai at Rajgriha (Dadar). He was cremated in a Buddhist manner on December 7, 1956 in the Hindu cemetery at Shivaji Park in front of 12 lakh followers. At that time, the place was known only as Hindu cremation ground. A few years later, a Chaitya was erected on the sacred bone of Ambedkar. Millions of Buddhists from all over India have been flocking to Chaityabhoomi (Dadar) Shivaji Park in Mumbai from December 1 every year to pay their respects to Ambedkar.
