A 55-year-old man and his two children have been charged in connection with the murder of their younger brother at Ghotgaon in Taloja node in a long-running dispute over ancestral land. According to police, the assailant was attacked with a wooden stick and a machete. The incident happened around 3 pm on Monday. Police have arrested the eldest son of the accused, who repeatedly attacked his cousin on the head and neck with a machete, while the accused father and son are absconding.

The accused are Balram Patil of Ghotgaon in Taloja and his two sons Manoj Patil (25) and Nitin Patil (22). The trio killed Balram’s brother Nivruti Patil (52). According to a police official, Manoj has been arrested while Balram and Nitin are absconding.

The deceased has been identified as Nivruti Patil (52). His married sister Sunanda Kolekar (38) was also beaten by the accused Balram Patil after an argument and she is a witness of this crime. She has registered a case against three accused. A case has been registered against him under sections 302, 323, 324, 504, 506 and 34 of the Penal Code.

According to the Times of India, the deceased’s sister has lodged a complaint with the police. He said he and his deceased brother Retirement were laying an underground pipeline for a new borewell on their ancestral property. Balram and his children objected to laying the pipeline on the ground. This sparked a verbal argument.

Soon after, the three accused started beating his sister and Nivruti with a wooden stick. Balram’s eldest son Manoj attacked the retiree with a machete. The retiree was taken to a hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead. Sunanda, who managed to escape from the spot, was treated at a hospital in Panvel. She then went to the police and lodged a complaint.
